In collaboration with leading scientific organisations from New Zealand

Two sensor strips are diagonally buried at different depths covering an expansive soil area, ensuring a large-spectrum of data collection.

The 3-metre-long upper sensor strip is designed to measure six litres (370 cubic inches) of soil and along the depth of the soil horizon in the root area.

The lower sensor strip is installed below the primary sensors’ depth in the same site, and designed to measure six litres of soil at the designated maximum saturation depth, to detect over irrigation.  

This system ensures consistently accurate soil moisture and temperature measurement in any weather conditions and soil types.


EquiPF automates the process of determining Soil Moisture Release Curves using the tension table principle. EquiPF was developed by Scientists at Landcare Research in New Zealand with the collaboration of Scientists at Oregon State University. 

EquiPF can also be used to study other soil properties including:

  • Effects of water retention of soil wetting agents used in water repellent soils.

  • Effects of sand grading on water retention and movement in sports turf soils.

  • Soil moisture characteristics of swelling soils under over-burden pressures.

  • Unsaturated hydraulic conductivity and diffusivity of soil near saturation.

  • DNAPL contaminant analysis

  • Soil water storage hysteresis characteristics
